Ahhh... Herbert W Armstrong. I've read much about him. I also know some of his followers. While a lot of his stuff has merit and is based in God's Word, there are also many things that he taught that was very questionable. Including many "prophecies" of his that did not come true. He assumed to know more than he really does. I see a lot of that from people who "follow" Herbert W Armstrong. As a matter of fact, one of his followers claimed him and his wife were the two end time witnesses. He claimed something major was going to happen around April of '08 and that he will be revealed as one of the witnesses prophecyed in the Book of Revelations. Of course that didn't come to pass, and he isn't one of the two witnesses. they also practice mandatory tithing, which I don think is applicable under the new convenant. They are much like "Jews for Jesus" that way, strict adherence to the "letter of the law." Because of that, a lot of the members or churches that subscribe to "Armstrongism," are not unlike the Pharisees that Jesus rebuked in the 4 Gospels.
His materials is good, despite some shortcomings. As with all other things, we must test and prove them. I do recommend reading his material, but we must be careful when considering some ideas. We must also consider opposing ideas to be more objective, and of course, pray for God's guidance. This is what I suggest to myself and others.
We all know that we must continually seek to understand. That is all we can do. How does "finite understanding" understand the infinite? Pretty difficult task, if you ask me, but so is the path of righteousness.
Matthew 7:13-14 (New King James Version)
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because[a] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
I really want to quote the hole chapter... Here it is for review: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%207;&version=50;
