Maybe, sounds like a Tumor of the dead tissue or critters themselves. In particular E. canis:
Blood chemistry revealed an increase in aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (AP), hypoproteinemia, hypoalbuminemia, and hyperglobulinemia by day 66 post-inoculation. Pathology revealed anemia, ascites, jaundice, interstitial pneumonia, splenomegaly, generalized lymphadenopathy, and severe fatty liver. The detection of E. canis was performed using tissue embedded in paraffin wax by nested PCR showing positive in all target organs.

As per DNA frqs, Ehrlichiosis includes items from Ehrlichia chaffeensis, Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, and Neorickettsia sennetsu:

This is possible another critter that creates Tumors like Onchocerca: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onchocerciasis
and since boron helps one has to wonder if it needs radiation...
