what you wish for isn't what is going to happen. class envy will always be with us. lower levels of income, mind you, not lower levels of people, just lower levels of earners will always envy the higher earners. yes, the high earners use the rules to their advantage, do you blame them? when my tax rate percentage is much higher than most folks percentage, is that fair? i'll put my work schedule up against anyone on this board. should i be punished because i work longer hours or have achieved greater success at any given profession than most? of course not. you say you don't want nanny state, yet you add the "but". i'd like a flat tax on everybody. ain't gonna happen. my tax accountant right now has my forms in hand today and is advised to find me each and every tax break in that rulebook. i want them all! i will tell you that my wife's income in the mortgage business is down 63% in one year over last. that should make a lot of folks happy, don't ya think? did she work less? no, in fact, she worked harder and longer hours just to make what she did. having everyone in the room make $45,000 isn't going to make amerika better...it makes us belgium. it makes us luxumborg.
we've been over this before. i probably would succeed if the loopholes were abolished, but i don't make the rules. i can't change anything. i've got about 35 good years left on this earth, i'm going to use those years changing and controlling what i can. and tax policy and wealth structure aren't areas i can change for the better.
i have hired the poor and lower middle class for work to better their lives. usually, they don't pan out and are what they are for a reason. you can't elevate people to areas of prominance just because. they have to show someting. you have a romantic view of the "poor" and "middle class". they aren't the downtrodden poor 'ol souls just needing a chance in life to be the next american idol. they aren't captains of industry with raging new inventions on the mind just waiting for a lucky break. they are people who've made bad decisions in life. they are people hooked on dope, hooked on alcohol, hooked on bad behavior. they said "no" to higher education. they took the first decent paying job and "let it ride". now, they're 39, making $15.50/hr, benefits, some overtime, a wife and kids. you blame me for that?
