Hey good recipe.
One can have a good meal and help lower back pains and possibly save a life without giving mouth to mouth.

- An Asian remedy uses black beans. Soak a cupful of black beans overnight to soften them and remove the gas-producing compounds (a bit of baking soda will help negate the gas-making problem, too). Put them in a pot with 3½ cups of water, bring to a boil, and let simmer for half an hour over low heat. During that half hour, keep removing the grayish foam which develops. After a half hour, cover the pot and let it cook for two hours. At that time, drain out any water that's left. Eat 2 to 3 tablespoons of black beans each day for one month, then every other day for one month. Fresh beans should be prepared at least every three or four days.

- Get a buddy to put 20 drops of eucalyptus oil in a tablespoon and warm it by passing it over the flame of lit candle for a few seconds (or they can just hold it in their hands until it warms up). Then have your buddy gently massage the warm oil on your painful area. The massage is as healing as the oil.

- Potato juice and celery juice have both been said to help sciatica sufferers. If you don't have a juicer, a health foor store with a juice bar might be willing to accomodate you. Have them juice a 10-oz combination of potato and celery juice, adding carrots and/or beets as necessary to improve the taste. In addition, drink a couple of cups of celery tea throughout the day.

- Apply a freshly minced horseradish poultice to the painful area.

- Eat raw garlic. Also take 10mg of Vitamin B1 supplements a day.

- A hot water bag on the pained area may help you sleep through the night.

- Drink elderberry juice and elderberry tea throughout the day.

- Before bedtime, heat olive oil and massage it into the painful areas.

- Eat lots of watercress and parsley a day.

- Eat a portion of raw sauerkraut every day.

- Polish folk healers advise wearing red-only woolen long underwear and carry a raw beet in their hip pocket. I have no idea how this works, but, for a pain sufferer, any port in a storm will do.

- Drink garlic milk. Mince two cloves of garlic, put them in ½ cup of milk and drink it down without chewing the pieces of garlic. Do so every morning and evening.

- Take a long hot bath or shower followed by a short cold shower or ice-cold compresses upon the painful areas.

From Mildred Carter's various books on reflexology:

Your foot, especially its underside, has a lot of reflex buttons which are connected via nerves to various parts of the body. Massaging these buttons stimulates the nerves which stimulate those other parts of your body. If you find a painful spot, massage it out. Don't be afraid to press down, but don't bruise yourself either.

- With the bottoms of your feet facing up, the inner side of each foot from the base of your big toe to your heel corresponds to your spine. You just have to massage along where you feel the toe bone on the side of the foot. If you find a sore spot, work it out.

- The reflexs to the sciatic nerve include a spot on the bottom of each heel, about a little back from the middle of the heel and toward the outside of the foot. It can be tough to massage with your thumb or knuckle unless it's really tender, however, once you've found it, you'll know it.

- Massage the whole area along the tendon in the back of the ankle, above the heel and up the back of the legs on both sides.

- Reach around to your back, a little below the waistline, and put your fingers on your spine, about 1 or 2 inches up from your tailbone. Now move the fingers about one handwidth toward the front of the body to where you can feel the movement of the joint of the upper leg. Press in and around this joint with thumb or finger until you find a sore spot. When you find the spot, press on it with the finger as you would a doorbell, holding it as long as the button on a doorbell. If you have the right spot and your sciatic nerve is acting up, you'll swear a hot poker is being thrust in there.-----------------

From bark to beans: Natural remedies for back pain

In addition to those common sense measures, you might want to try some of the little-known, time-tested, international remedies that we have found to safely relieve mild back pain.

Birch bark. Native Indians knew that the birch tree has many medicinal uses. They gathered the leaves or inner bark of the black birch and steeped them in hot water to make a tea to relieve lower back pain.

Black beans. An Oriental remedy for back pain is to eat 2 tablespoons of black beans every day for a month. Beans are good sources of protein, which is needed for strong muscles. And back pain is often the result of poor tone in the muscles that support the spinal column.

Heat. Backache sufferers often get relief by using a moist, hot towel or heating pad. Lie on your stomach and have someone else put the heated pad on your back. Then cover it to keep the heat in.

CAUTION: Heating pads should never be set on high and then placed on the skin. Use a towel in between to prevent burning.

Hydrotherapy. In the Orient, sufferers of back pain soak their feet in hot water for 20 to 30 minutes. Back pain and spasms are often relieved in this way. The nerves that go to the feet come off the lower spinal column, so warming them may do the trick. CAUTION: If you have ulcers, avoid this treatment. It may stimulate blood circulation, which could indirectly trigger acid secretion in the stomach.

Ice. If your back pain is the result of a sudden strain or spasm, it's usually best to apply ice immediately. Later on, switch to moist heat.

Natural anti-inflammatories. If your backache is caused by tissue inflammation, you might find relief by trying one of the natural anti-inflammatories already mentioned as arthritis treatments.

These include cherries, devil's claw tea, blackstrap molasses, celery, feverfew, alfalfa, ginger, yucca, and fish oils.

Papaya. Natives of the Fiji Islands were the first to recognize the medicinal values of the fruit and bark of the papaya tree. Several other cultures have since recognized the papaya's powerful curative abilities. And research is now being done to develop the fruit's active enzyme, papain, to treat herniated (slipped) discs in the lower (lumbar) area of the back, a frequent source of severe back pain.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BLACK BEANS
Nature: warming

Actions: tonifies kidneys, nourishes the yin, strengthens and nourishes blood, brightens eyes, promotes diuresis, and aids kidney deficiency.

Conditions: lower back pain, knee pain, infertility, seminal emissions, blurry vision, ear problems, difficult urination.

Nutrition:

Black beans are fiber-rich and a good source of protein, albeit incomplete. Combine it with rice or another grain to make it a complete protein. These beans are also an excellent source of folate and the trace mineral, molybdenum. Research has shown that black beans are rich in antioxidant compounds called anthocyanins that help protect against some cancers.
