As a long time faster who really appreciates that light, clean, clear fasting feeling I am always on the lookout for a post-fast eating program that will extend this, and help me keep from gaining back weight lost during the fast.
I recently stumbled on the Fast-5 program and initially thought, "quack, quack"! However, after reading the credentials and full concept I came away truly impressed. I just broke a cleansing fast straight onto this program and am very excited about it!
Basically you fast 19 hours, drinking anything non-caloric that you like, with a 5 hour window in which you can eat virtually anything you like.
Sound too good to be true? As the author, an MD with nice credentials and a background in metabolic research says, of course people go crazy and binge or generally go crazy in the beginning, but soon settle down to eating sensibly in their window.
People lose 1-2 pounds a week once they achieve the 19/5 schedule for a few weeks and continue to do so until their goal weight is reached. The author suggests it as an ongoing lifestyle for maximum health.
The overall effect is similar to the fabled calorie restriction concept which is shaping up to be a fountain of youth in research, at least in the animal phase. Reduced calorie intake is generally a good idea, in short.
Anyhow, if you haven't read this fascinating Little Book, download it for free at http://www.fast-5.com
and check it out! I would be interested in your feedback. It seems tailor-made for those of us who are oriented to fasting.
Best to all,
Somer
