Greetings,

I am generally healthy female of 36 years. I have practiced yoga for 8 years and am a dancer since childhood but after having my son 15 months ago I have not been very physically active and the labor/birth was very difficult (3 days in labor, posterior baby) . After his birth I had a series of health issues starting with yeast infection in the breasts. In May of 2008 I suffered a lumbar strain which eventually left me with frequent low back/hip aches. In september I decided it was time to start dancing again. In November of 2008 I noticed a deep ache in my right hip and 3 of my toes were slightly swollen (2nd, 4th & 5th). The swelling subsided and in December I suffered a real bad sciatic flare-up, which left me in horrible pain and discomfort. I got a steroid shot in the hip had 3 acupuncture treatments and one with an osteopath that said my pelvis was lower on my right side. I was taking a number of meds including ones for pain, inflammation and muscle relaxants. Now I still have slight numbness/weakness in the lower half of my leg and my toes. This has gotten better since doing a weekly yoga practice. But over two weeks ago I noticed that again my 3 toes on my right foot became swollen/red, especially the pinky. They occasionally itch, feel worse in heat and moisture or extreme cold. They swelling and numbness in the toes is worse in the morning and seems to subside somewhat during the day. I have done the 10 day Master Cleanse and although I feel better, my toes are still swollen. I am also doing some acupuncture. My intuition tells me it is related to the sciatica.

Is this all related? How long does it take for sciatic nerve injury to heal? I hope you can shed some light on my condition. I am willing to make the changes to bring about lasting results. I don't want to see a podiatrist. I am however seeing a Bodytalk therapist in the hopes to clear some energy blockages that are not allowing my body to heal completely.

Thank-you for listening. I look forward to your response.
