Hi Rooth,
caught up with you on this forum then concerning Fuhrman.

No, I am not a stalker, but have arrived all the way from the Water Fasting Support Forum !!!!

Very tiring trek I can assure you.

Anyway: the salt issue.....now there's a can of worms that could spark debate after debate..........the pro colony versus the con colony.

However, after that paltry attempt at humor, I'm inclined to agree with Dr Fuhrman........

AND.........
Harvey Diamond: a qualified Nutritional Scientist who states..........
Q. Just how harmful is salt?
A. "The Egyptians used salt for embalming. Let's take the hint!. This year Americans will consume five hundred million pounds of salt. That's a lot of embalming. Salt is everywhere and in everything from pet food to baby food. Salt is a major contributing factor to the increasing incidence of hypertension. Salt is so caustic to the sensitive inner tissues of the body, that water is retained to neutralize its acidic effect. This adds weight to the body."

I think we should distinguish here between "salt" and "sodium" which are not quite the same thing. You need sodium yes, but not sodium chloride or common table salt which is an inorganic mineral and of no use to the body: next time you ever have a highly salted snack you will develop an intense thirst which is your bodys way of demanding fluids to "wash out" the offending substance.
It isn't by accident that the great British Pub will have salted snacks such as crisps and peanuts at "the bar"............eat those and you will develop a stronger thirst & drink more alcoholic beverages. The breweries aren't backwards at coming forwards are they?!!

Inorganic minerals such as sodium are made bioavailable into an organic form when they are taken up by plants via chelation, unless anyone would prefer to lick the rust at the local railway sidings to receive their iron!!!

Paul Bragg of Nutrition and fasting fame was also anti-salt because of its ill-health effects over time; I suggest you read his copy of "The Miracle of Fasting" where he has a whole chapter on the use of salt and its harmful-effects. Too much to print here.

Well that makes at least two Nutritional experts that I would tend to agree with, and as a possible matter of interest........I have not added any salt to my diet for over 30 years and feel in the very best of health.
In my view (and theirs) you are best to obtain your sodium directly from the plant kingdom as recommended by Dr Fuhrman, Bragg and many others.

Regards

Chrisb1.
