An open system is where you will expel into a basin-toilet while you lie on the table; the nozzle stays in your rectum while you eliminate.

A closed system is 2 separate tubes, one for the water in and one for the waste out.

The nozzle in open is much smaller: but expulsion does not go directly into a waste pipe.
