Wow, some interesting information in your post.

"I know Dr. Fuhrman doesn't recomended fasting to lose weight because from what I've gathered he wants people to learn how to eat properly first so they don't ruin the benifits of the fast by slipping back into old habits. Then the weight you gain back if eating junk is worse for you then when you started, like more plague around your heart. He wants people to learn new habits first."

I see, that makes perfect sense to me. Well, my first fast was for 27 days. I wouldn't do one that long again, but looking back I recall that I started to desire good food after about 21 days. I think I am going to have to get his book, He sounds very sensible. I found him on Wikipedia and I will read later.

Also my life was very much in control and stress free when I fasted. I think that is extremely important.

Also his theroy is that when your body doesn't get enough micro nutrients/nutrient rich foods then that causes your body to crave more foods as a way of trying to get more nutrients it needs, so you feel like eating more, and get fat, but when you eat high nutrietnt foods, you end up craving less food so you end up eating less and stay skinny and healthy

I know I p**s a few people off here sometimes so I will try not to mention any words that make people angry, but if that theory is correct, doesn't it make perfect sense that if we are eating crap, we will always want to eat more? And if we try to eat less, we will still want to eat more? I think I also found a post from Mike D or Hopinso that if you eat vegetables or fruit, you can never put on weight. I think also Chrisb1 mentioned that today's food has less nutrients because of over-farmed land. I personally think stress increases our need for nutrients, this is why stress on a fast screws me up. I am definately going to learn more about this guy.

Thanks for your comments on metabolism, but I was more interested in when it slows down, i.e after how many days fasting. Again I guess this depends on how much nutrients we have to start with. I think our bodies are like wonderful computers that know all the parameters and plan in advance, but I guess for a typical well nourished person in a sedenatery and stress free environment there must be some sort of average, eg 15 days. I wanted to optimise my fasting time so that I end my fast before my metabolism slows down appreciably.

"I'll listen to my body and see."

Waterbug, it's great that you are in touch with it and can hear it. I don't think many people in today's busy society can.

I'll read up on Fuhrman later, Thanks for the info.

Steve
