Hi,

I'm confused as to why your doctor told you the Mirena has testosterone in it. The drug is levonorgestrel and it is a progestin. Wikipedia defines it as "a synthetic progestagen that has progestinic effects similar to progesterone". From what I understand, it goes into your body's prgesterone receptors which causes your body to stop producing real progesterone. This in turn causes your ratio of progesterone to estrogen to be off and throws you into estrogen dominance. It sounds like he was right about this part. I just had an appt with my hematologist, though, and was talking about the effects of hormonal birth control on testosterone because mine came back low. She said hormonal birth control always causes testosterone to be low. If you look up estrogen dominance, some of the side effects inculde losing hair and having facial hair. I would be careful about taking any progesterone by pill. Do they have the real progesterone available by pill form or are you just going to be taking another progestin? I haven't done enough research, but I thought the best replacement was a cream (made from Yams) that is the same as the one our body makes. Does anyone know? I'm just posting this in concern for you. I'm sorry it's been so long and you still have bad symptoms. Are they getting any better each month?
