I've been coloring my hair with semi-permanent salon colors and highlights for probaby 15 years. When I started doing a lot of cleansing and detoxing, I decided to give all that up....it lasted about a year, at which point my fine, thin, limp mouse brown hair made me feel so frumpy and unattractive that I went back to the salon color. I tried several hennas, and aside from being really messy and difficult to apply evenly, there was a definite underlying greenish tinge that looked really weird. I think it's probably OK for the very darkest hair, but I definitely did not like it on me.

Has anybody heard of a more natural-looking hair color (I don't have any gray to cover) that doesn't contain chemicals? It looked like Aubrey had a line that was supposed to come out last Fall, but then it disappeared almost right away. It looked like it was really just fancied-up henna. I think the salon semi-permanent colors are slightly less offensive than the permanent color (at least they don't smell as bad), and I'm wondering if there is some brand that is a less toxic compromise. I use Aveeda styling products on days when I'm going out (Aubrey or nothing if I'm hanging around the house) because it performs pretty well and the ingredients look a little more herbal-based, although it's just "pseudo-natural."

If I was a chemist, I would develop my own line.... There has to be a market for that...
