What causes the damage to the lungs... Is it the chlorine dioxide gas, or the chlorite ion?

Another distinction to keep in mind is that these studies were done with chlorine dioxide added to water with no residual. When you add acid to a sodium chlorite solution, some chlorine dioxide is released as free chlorine dioxide, but the rest is held in the chlorous acid solution to be released later.

A conservative approach would be to look at the reported mg/l (or PPM) and compare those concentrations to the available chlorine dioxide mixed up in a dose of Miracle-Mineral-Supplement . For example a 15 drop dose of Miracle-Mineral-Supplement in 200 ml of water would have an available concentration of chlorine dioxide of about 600 mg/l (PPM).
