Just wanted to offer my support and sympathy! I have had vulval eczema for several years now. As a child I had mild eczema in the usual places - backs of knees etc - but the vulval condition started in my early thirties. I keep it under control with mild steroid cream (usually hydrocortisone one percent two or three times a week). Obviously I have cut out all possible irritants and only wash with tepid water, wash my hair over the bath rather than in the shower, etc etc. I've had two second opinions, and also a biopsy, but I'm confident this is eczema and nothing more sinister. However, that's not to underestimate how depressing a condition this is! My main fear is that the long-term use of steroids will thin the skin, and then I'll be in even more trouble. However, I've seen the top vulval expert in the uk, and she assures me this won't happen. Wish I had a crystal ball, though! One of the worst things about this is that it's a hidden, unspoken condition. You don't see many discussion threads on vulval eczema, so it was good to read your message. I wish you all the very best in coping with this problem. Don't let the eczema beat you! I do manage to lead a very happy life with my husband and three children! Good luck!
