When you see an article that says one thing in the title and another in the text, especially when it is from a research institute that feels it necessary to emphasize that it is a "research institute" in it's title, doesn't it just make you a little suspicious?

So without wishing to do a full hatchet job on the Rowett Research Institute, I did a bit of googling.

I found http://plab.ku.dk/tcbh/PusztaiLembcke.htm

This is about a Dr Pusztai who worked for the Rowett Research Institute, and in 1998 it seems he did a TV exposé on genetically modified food. Here are some quotes from this website...

"It was 10 August 1998 that dr. Pusztai participated in the "World in Action" tv program. Two days later he was suspended, his research team scattered, the laboratory sealed and all the data confiscated. For seven months he was gagged, and in the meantime pronounced disturbed, senile and having mixed up his results."

...and...

"The Press Release that was displayed world-wide in August 1998 by Dr Pusztai's employers, The Rowett Research Institute, indicated that he was an old man who had mixed his findings.

The undersigned who is a specialist in geriatrics had an over 2 hour long talk by phone with Dr Pusztai in December 1998. I found that he did not have the slightest symptoms of confusion or memory disturbances. On the contrary, he had a remarkably clear and vivid intellect with excellent short and long-term memory. He provided a highly qualified and coherent explanation about his scientific experiments and the problems he had encountered.

My conclusion is that the Press Release that was displayed world-wide by his employers, obviously was an unethical attempt to deceive the world about his important research findings and to destroy the credibility of this distinguished food research expert."

...and...

"PSRAST has learnt that The Rowett Research Institute, contrary to its claims, is not an independent research institute. For its economical survival it is dependent on its commercial subsidiary, Rowett Research Services, that donates a significant part of its profits to the institute. This solution was created when the British government withdrew full funding of such institutes (was the purpose perhaps to facilitate corporate control over food research?). Without it, the institute had been unable to survive, according to our sources. This subsidiary in turn co-operates among others with Monsanto, a major biotechnology firm that obviously had great interest in offsetting the impact of Dr Puszta's public statement about the lacking safety of Genetically-Modified foods."

So - cobblers.

But my opinion is not from any articles I have read. It is because I have fasted, and know it works, and I know I don't lose much muscle, or get hungry on a fast.
