Hugo,
While you were not referring to Ms. Umbach in this instance, my reply referenced a previous post in you which referenced a July 8, 2009 press release quoting Ms. Umbach's comments about 'waking up the virus and using antivirals to kill it.' You stated that you doubt a credible source would speak that way.
I searched for that specific post and could not locate it...hmmm, perhaps it magically disappeared, but it definitely existed because it was a source of great frustration when I read it and almost prompted me to respond then (I believe it was in October).
Nevertheless, I am glad to hear you have not allowed herpes to consume your life. I was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed and like you, it is for the most part, a non-issue but there are some fellow sufferers who are not as fortunate. Please do not misunderstand, I do not condone instilling false hope but if you were to review your posts collectively, you may concur they are predominately, quite negative.
You are obviously extremely knowledgeable which is why I consistently seek out and read your posts and respect your input. However, IMHO there seems to be a sense of hopelessness that comes through your messages.
Yes, right now, there is no cure, but I believe if the human mind can conceive it, then it can achieve it and for that reason, I believe there will soon be a cure for herpes. In the meantime, our challenge is to not lose hope, continue to educate the afflicted and non-afflicted alike, and most importantly NOT shoot down every possible research development.
And on that note, enough said...moving on~
