Cholesterol is a carrier for some minerals and some drugs. When you take the medicine cholesterol bonds itself to the drug. The majority of cholesterol is re-absorbed in the ileum of the intestines, into the portal vein and to the liver. Liver Flushing releases stale bile and with it a quantity of attached drugs. Sometimes this is enough to give symptoms. If you are take the drug at the same time you can get a mild overdose.

Possible side effects when starting or increasing dosage and hyper-doses include irregular heartbeat; tachycardia insomnia nervousness headache diarrhoea tremor arrhythmia and heat intolerance. Side effects vary greatly so check you drug insert.

The drugs also interacts with magnesium salts which includes magnesium sulfate and this should be listed on drug information sheet. The official advice is to interrupt treatment until the crisis passes.
