As a Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant I will say this: The home can be an irritant that is causing some serious issues to arise in sensitized persons. That isn't to imply that mold is the root cause. The fact is that there is enough evidence and concern to warrant you having an independent environmental professional (without remediation ties) to investigate the home in order to diagnose the structure and its Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). This information can be taken (along with the history) to a personal doctor for a personal interpretation of circumstance. Be sure that when you hire your professional they are qualified to investigate the indoor environment (not just mold - the IAQ is a complex inter-related mixture of elements that make up the whole) and will provide you with non-biased information (no remediation ties so no conflict of interest) and a protocol (recommendation of care for the structure). You can find a professional to service your area on my website or either: the Indoor Air Quality Association (www.iaqa.org) or the American Indoor Air Quality Council (www.iaqcouncil.org). If I can be of any further help I'll do my best.
