Hello Barb,
One can go on a juice fast for a long time, up to 10 weeks and beyond.
If this is your first I would suggest you start with a 14 days fast at the most.
One thing, I think you might wish to consider doing, is several days (3-5) before you start your fast to eat mainly fruits and vegetables. This would start detox your body and prepare it fot the greater clean up awaiting you during the fast.
You will in most likelihood detox, the amount of which will depend on how badly your body needs to detox. You might experience some discomfort, tiredness and some aches in you joints or legs.
Your tongue might get coated and whitish after several days and you may or may not have a bit of foul breath as well as perhaps some Body Odor . be sure to scrape your tongue 1-2 a day.
These are all good signs that your body is detoxing, so don't get discouraged.
One way for you to help your body (particularly the liver detox and to elliviate some of the discomfort, is to take several enemas or coffee enemas during the fast. Be sure to read all about enemas, and coffee enemas in particular before you attempt to use them.
If you go long enough with your fast and you are lucky, you might get to the point where your tongue gets all pink and you have eliminated tremendous amount of toxins from your body.
Drink your juices slowly one sip at a time, after all they are food.
Try not to drink juices of fruit that is too sweet or glycemic by themselves, but instead mix them with other fruits that are less sweet or glycemic. For example, mix grapes with pears and smith apples.
Make sure the fruits and vegetables you juice are organic.
When you decide to break you fast, do so gradually. Don't go on a wild eating binge. It is perhaps even better for 1-2 days to eat mostly fruits and veggies.
Enjoy your juice fast!!!
