I was thrilled to read you have stopped the contraceptives - they can cause alot of problems.

You are doing so many of the right things - massage therapy, chiropractic (assuming you have found a good one), experimenting with your diet, acupuncture, etc. All of these things can be used as tools to help us get past the crisis. Since I can't prescribe for you - let me share a personal experience.

When I was in my 30's, I was in and out of a wheel chair due to back problems. After my last child (9th) was born, I was 39 years-old. My back was shot!! My chiropractor said he couldn't help me any more so he sent me to a neuro-surgeon. The doctor told me that I was missing a disc in my lower back, so the vertebrae was bone on bone. He told me there were two other discs which were almost gone. The only thing he could do to help me was to fuse the vertebrae together. I still had 11 children at home to take care of, so I was not willing to take this kind of chance with my back or health. I thanked him for his time and left.

Shortly after this, I began my journey into 'alternative' medicine (in my opinion, this should be the first choice - not the alternate). As I began to study and learn, I realized what an enclosed, conventional box I had been living in!! Most of us go through our entire lives not realizing how much power we have to shape our own destiny - especially when it comes to our health.

Anyway, I began to change my lifestyle - giving up carbonated drinks, meat, dairy, processed sugar, drinking pure, distilled water, etc. At this time I was not even aware of the incredible healing properties of things like comfrey, mullein, cayenne, etc., so it was just lifestyle changes.

As I was approaching my mid 40's, I moved and changed chiropractors, so he wanted some new X-rays. (I have had a couple of serious accidents - such as a deer coming through the windshield and hitting me in the face) After looking at the X-rays, he called me into his office to speak with me. He said, "You know for someone your age - this doesn't look bad. You have one disk in your lower back that is smaller than the rest, but, other than that every thing looks great". I told him that 5 years before, there was no disk there. He said, "That's impossible! You can't regrow disks". I told him if he didn't believe me, he could order my old X-rays and compare them.

The point to this story is this: By ridding my life of prescription drugs and changing my diet to fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds - many of them fresh and alive - I was able to give my body what it needed to repair itself.

In my 30's, I was in and out of a wheel-chair. In my 40's, I could play basketball with my kids again - run and not fall from the excruciating pain. In my 50's I can carry, wrestle and play with my grandchildren.

Each decade should get better - not worse. We do not have to grow old, degenerate, and deteriorate!! It's our choice!

I'm sure this was not the answer you were looking for, but when I was in your shoes, I found that my entire life had to be re-evaluated. There are no magic bullets!! There are alot of things that can help us - such as with the insomnia - exercise (which it sounds like you are doing), lavendar oil in a hot bath, meditation, saunas, soothing music, massage, restructuring some of our daily routines to relieve the stress we quite often put on ourselves, finding the incredible beauty in life - all of these things can help.

In "Dr Mom's Healthy Living" I address hormonal imbalances and all types of uterine problems, including endometriosis. The foundation is the key - Cleanse and Nourish - let the body heal itself.

Best wishes in your journey, Dr Mom
