It's probably best to use both foot pads and handholds. This link shows how to connect them.

Notice the ground is only connected in one place. You really only need one foot pad (piece of metal) for both feet because they are both hooked up to the positive.

But if your only going to use foot pads without handhold you'll need 2 foot pads for positive and negative.
