I'd very strongly suggest that your partner be tested with a reliable blood test like the HerpeSelect for both types 1&2 so they know their status.

How were you diagnosed and was it a type-specific test? It's worthwhile knowing your type. If, for example, it turns out that your genital herpes is type 1, then you probably got it from receiving oral sex from someone who has cold sores, even if they didn't have one at the time. This leads me to another thing.. Some 90% of herpes simplex infected people don't know they have it because they don't have obvious symptoms.

Most people get their herpes infection from someone who is not experiencing symptoms at the time.. Think about it. If you've got an active symptomatic outbreak, sex is likely to be just a bit uncomfortable.
