Hopinso, my dear sweet friend.  Thank you so much for that explanation as it is so well needed.  When I opened this forum I made it know I am Muslim but I am a person of love and peace and many do not understand me but you have placed such light on the whole subject.  Yes, I do not judge anyone for their religion and I am tolerant of every one.  My mom is 7th day Adventist, My sister prespyterian and use to be both Jewish and Muslim.  I live with 4 mormon women when I was very young so I understand almost all faiths.  I so want everyone to understand that I celebrate with you your holidays and just want to tell you what is going on with mine.

We only have two holidays a year. One after the Ramadan fasting and one after the sacrifice.  This one is called Eid Adha.
The one after Ramadan is called Eid Fitr.  When I became Muslim I had to give up Christmas and that was hard because I just love the holiday of gift giving and sharing and eating of course.  So this forum gives me the chance to share your world and mine.

I start my fast shortly before the dawn and we have no water or food until sunset.  Then we can eat all we want till before sunrise.  But we feel what was the point of fasting if we are going to eat like pigs.  So we do try to restrain what we eat.  Before the fast begins we eat a light meal.  So when the day begins we are prepared.  We make a silent intention to fast the 9 days not aloud and our fast begins.  We feel very peaceful and happy as worship brings us so close to our creator.

Allah, is simply an arabic word for God.  We worship the same God.  Our beliefs are different in how we worship but it is the same God.  I think there is great misunderstanding here.  I have been Muslim for 15 years and I was Christian for 40 years so understand both religions real well.  I was a Sunday School teacher, funny huh.

So today I feel real happy to begin my period of worship so I have to be real good.  Oh darn!!

Thank you so much Hopinso, I love you more than my own sister and I am so glad you are here today to share this with me.
