Certainly some of that going on but IMO there is more here...

This looks to me like an effort to push the US into a horrible position in the future. By screwing with the future markets they are guaranteeing food and energy shortages at what will most likely be the MOST inopportune time...

Think of a world in food, energy and material shortage then who gets first bid? Those with the strongest currency...
