I strongly recommend and suggest to you to buy a book "amalgam Illness Diagnosis and Treatment" by Andrew (andy) Hall Cutler if you wish to find out about mercury, what it does, where it goes, what to take, how to chelate it, the symptoms, what to expect, the time period etc.
I have suffered mercury toxicity for most of my life. It can take from 2-5 years or so to complete mercury chelation - brain included. If you leave things to go naturally? Then yes, you could be waiting a lifetime for just some of it to be gone.
I have not heard of it taking ten years to remove brain mercury if you are actively chelating on the right protocol.....this is news to me.
Active chelation? Then you could be looking at a few years and it varies from person to person. Some start getting well quickly, others may take longer, depending on how much your body has hung onto it over the years and how much mercury you have been exposed to. I have not heard of it taking ten years to chelate brain mercury. I have heard it can take a few years, but not a decade. That might happen however if you are doing barely any chelation, or not using a brain chelating agent and not using things correctly.
Please, if you wish to find out from an expert who has studied this for many years of his life and treats many patients around the world, including online, then please look into Andy Cutler's protocol and book. I do not know if I can post a link here, but this is a sample of it in a nutshell and here are many questions he answered online.

If that link doesn't work, look up Informative posts by Andy Cutler and it should give you a link "index to posts by Andy Cutler" and click on that and I suggest reading and saving that page to your computer and referring to it often.
Please educate yourself from experts like him, he has a huge following because of his track record of success and many have gotten well and are getting well on his protoco. I was somebody who was seriously sick with mercury poisoning and could not tolerate other protocols accept his. His started getting me well much sooner, and much better tolerated and safer.
It should NOT take you a decade to remove brain mercury if you actively chelate in the right manner with the right stuff. However, you should remove the body burden of mercury first, before you start using a brain chelating agent like alpha lipoic acid. As high blood/tissue levels of mercury, must be reduced first, either naturally waiting it out? Which could be longer and more painful, or by using a product like DMSA or DMPS (done cutler style if you wish to be safe). Once those levels are reduced, then it is safe to bring onboard a brain chelating agent, which not only chelates the brain, but other organs also. You do not want to use one however, if your body/blood burden is still too high, as the brain chelator may take some of that mercury into the brain with it!
I hope this proves helpful to you. You can also go to the curezone forum that concentrates on Andy Cutler's protocol for mercury poisoned people. Many helpful and informed people on there can help you -
