I rinsed it with some warm water and some uniodized Sea Salt .
I've read lots of things saying to keep it open, without a bandage.
It looks really deep...like there is a big space between the ripped skin and whatever is underneath.
The ER also said they wanted to do exploratory surgery to see how far down it goes, to determine whether it's gotten into her chest or something.
But I've read that abscesses are caused by simple surface scratches, which is I'm sure what it was, just a surface scratch no longer than an inch.
She's taking oral anti-biotics right now: Clavamox
I have her in the restroom sleeping on her bed with food and water, away from the other cat, and large dog.
The abscess seems to have gotten a little smaller and less puss is visible. It still hurts her to touch anywhere near it. So it's difficult to restrain her since it's on her side right behind her arm.
Is it really ok to put things on it like that? How quickly did the wounds usually close for your cats?
