That is because the methanol (wood alcohol) released from the breakdown of Aspartame (Equal, Nutrasweet) is a very powerful neurotoxin. Methanol is known to cause headaches, loss of vision, mental disturbances, and cancer (from metabolism in to formaldehyde) for starters.
