Advil (ibuprofen) is a very dangerous medication for a lot of reasons. And yes, it can cause ulcers as can other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs work by inhibiting hormones known as prostaglandins. Some prostaglandins cause inflammation by dilating blood vessels causing them to leak. By inhibiting these prostaglandins the blood vessels are constricted reducing leakage. Although this can cause problems like liver failure, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, loss of vision, and tinnitus.
Ulcers are caused by these drugs because another prostaglandin is required for the production of the protective lining of the stomach. By inhibiting this prostaglandin the NSAIDs allow the stomach acid to directly attack the stomach wall. Aspirin, the most widely used NSAID, is well known for causing ulcers. The FDA estimates that over 16,000 people a year die from the use of NSAIDs, primarily due to internal bleeding from drug induced ulcers.
Ginger can help control nausea. It is best taken as a tea made from the dried plant, not fresh. Drying cracks the cell walls releasing the active constituents. Sip on the tea before meals.
As for allergies, these result from adrenal dysfunction. Building up the adrenals with natural vitamin C sources and pantothenic acid will help. Also adaptogenic herbs like licorice root; which also helps to heal ulcers, ashwagandha, Siberian ginseng, astragalus, and jiaogulan will build up the adrenals. Avoid any stimulants like caffeine and nicotine, as well as steroids, and find a way to keep your stress to a minimum. Stimulants, steroids, and stress really weaken adrenal function making the allergies worse.
Acid blockers are really bad!!! You need to try to get off of the drug as soon as possible.
