Hey BuddhaBoi,

Did you get a full blood test done to determine your cholesterol levels, fasting glucose levels, T3 and T4 hormone levels, triglycerides, homocysteine levels?? Your situation could also be stress induced. I'm in a similiar situation to yours, but I find yours a little more intriguing because you claim to have never done any illicit drugs or alcohol. I used to blame my hypertension on drinking (however, not anymore than most people my age have done, and I started drinking fairly late -- at 24), and drug use (I've tried Ecstasy several times), however, after reading what you wrote and reading more on hypertension, I've concluded that it's mostly genetics. Both my parents are now hypertensive, and i'm fairly certain my father has been hypertensive since his early 40s. Also, i'm fairly certain my arteries are cleaner than a whistle. The cardiologist was astounded by my cholesterol levels: 76 LDL, 67 HDL. I've always had great cholesterol when I was younger. All my blood tests came out fine too -- just like yours. I've had an EKG, and several other tests. I can only conclude that our hypertension is a result of kidney function going awry. I mean, they work, except, they don't produce the amount of hormones (renin) needed to flush out water. I've noticed before, when I was in my early twenties, that when I drank alot of water, I would need to PEE badly within a couple hours. I've noticed now that it seems I don't have to PEE as regularly. I don't know if this is a sign, but I think drinking ALOT of water is beneficial to your kidneys.

Also, I've read many books on dietary approaches, alternative supplementation, etc... and i've tried alot of these. My diet is really low on sodium, high on potassium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin C, high on fiber, and low in fat, however, it did nothing for my blood pressure. I've even taken a whole lot of different supplements and it didn't do much. I'm 30 years old, 5'10", 165 lbs, and athletic, muscular, and toned. I can run 7 miles in under 50 minutes. However, my BP is still anywhere from 130-150 mmHg/ 60-80 mmHg. I've only recently been having 150. Before I left Hawaii to California, my BP was less than 130. The last time I got it checked before the 150 readings, it read 135. I can only conclude that the lifestyle up here did something to me physically. I don't understand it either. It's probably all stress induced.

However, the drugs available do a GREAT job in reducing my systolic BP. I take a diuretic and it works great. I've got no more pounding heart beats in my head, I can think more clearly know, I'm more focused and relaxed... it's just amazing.

And in terms of longeveity... my father is 63 years old, and he's really healthy now. His BP is fine. I know a Vietnamese man that has had high BP since he was in his mid 30s, and now he's 84... WITH DIABETES since his 50s. What my point is, life is short, and you shouldn't waste it with worry. Just live it. Experiment with different ideas to control your BP, and if all those fail within a year, go on medication. That's what I've done and it's made life alot better.

BTW, are you asian? Chinese? Japanese? I'm asian as well.
