I was not responding to your comment "liberalism is based on a "feel good" mentality". You have taken some of my prior comments out of context. But to be "honest" you are making some sweeping commentary on "liberalism". There's no meat there to comment on. If you are going to make these sweeping emotional grand statements, back it up.

But the point I was making is that religion has no place in politics. The founding fathers believed that, and that is the reason that "Freedom of Religion" is written into our constitution. All you have to do is look at the posts on this forum to know that it's the so called "believers" that get the most emotionally involved and offer little in the way of true discussion. Bespeaking "religion" and "christianity" let those people off the hook, because it's the pat answer. There's no need for intellectual thought when you simply evoke biblical thoughts.

You put quotes around the following:

YOU SAY: "I hate those that are unwilling to believe that there are others that do not agree with their views"

I certainly have never stated that. Perhaps you are PROJECTING. I don't "hate" anyone. That's a pretty strong word. However, there have been a number of hateful posts regarding other's race and religion. Again, it's an emotional topic, often brought up by those who are tied solely to their religious ideals without regard for any others.

I did not comment on your "drug" analogy because I didn't think it was worthy of discussion.

You stated that America was based on Christianity. Again we are dealing with an incorrect view of American history. You are wrong. Are you reading the same Constitution as Sarah Palin, who does not even know how to answer a simple question about the duties of a Vice President? America's founding fathers wrote freedom of religion into the constitution to protect us from fundamentalists and other nut jobs that would take away our rights as citizens. The philosophy behind this idea is spot on perfect.

You still have not answered my question about "What is Morality". You only talk about morality as biblical, and you only talk about morality in terms of "America". And you are now stating the term "true" Americans. Are you saying that the Buddhist down the street, or your Hindu neighbor, or the Atheist at your job is not an American? Are you saying that it is only the people with your religious views that are either "American" or "Moral"? There was a woman on Hardball whose political career is now in the toliet for saying exactly what you are stating here.

This is some very dangerous water you are treading. I think you need to seriously examine your prejuidices. it appears that you have a very limited and skewed view that could seriously infringe on my rights as an American should that same philosophy be put in a position of power.

Do you walk through your daily life slotting people into these pigeon holes of deserving and undeserving? I get very curious about posters like you. Where you live, what you do for a living, what the conversation is around your dinner table. Of course I don't want to really know this about you, but it is very interesting to me.

I was raised not to hate anyone. I was raised to respect all people despite their religious and political viewpoints. I was raised with racial diversity and tolerance. I was raised to believe that all people have equal protection under the law. While this is an "ideal" it is this sense of fairness I have carried around with me all my life.

I digress. The discussion on the definition of "what is moral" is a good one. But you have to have a world view, and a rudimentary knowledge of other religions. And in the end you will not be able to define it because there is an entire world out there that feels that morality has another set of rules, from tribes in the Amazon, to Iran, to pockets of America. You simply cannot define it, it is "undefinable". Think about it next time you are throwing that word around. Are you absolutely sure you understand what it means?
