There is a lot of misinformation about soy going around on the net. First of all phytoestrogens in soy are on average 200 to 400 times weaker than the body's own estrogens. This is why phytoestrogens are used to prevent cancer and balance the hormones. For example red clover blossoms, commonly used in anticancer formulas, contain the same two phytoestrogens found in soy plus two others. These phytoestrogens lock up estrogen receptors on cells blocking stronger estrogens from attaching, and thus blocking their adverse effects. These include the adverse actions of xenoestrogens like dioxin, DDT, phlalates, etc. What the anti-soy advocates are also failing to mention is the fact that many other common foods contain phytoestrogens as well. These include yams (extremely high), sage, peas, beans, parsley, seaweeds, kudzu root, broccoli, cabbage, Brussel's sprouts, etc. Also bioflavonoids found in berries and other sources also have phytoestrogen-like effects. Note that many of these plants that are on the list are also used to fight cancer or prevent it.

If we want to avoid phytoestrogens and similar substances we pretty much have to give up eating.
