Back in mid-June---as I posted previously---I was shocked to discover that my blood Sugar had jumped to 155. The doctor changed one of my blood pressure meds and told me to come back in about 3 months. During that time, I started taking gymnema sylvestre, prickly pear cactus, cinnamon and milagro de la selva tea. I took the maximum daily dose of all. In addition, I was prescribed a new medication that helped my IBS-D tremendously---so much to the point that I can eat more fruits and vegetables and not worry about diarrhea. This helped when it came to improving my diet. So...I added more fruits and vegetables, watched the Sugar intake, got on the treadmill once a week, walked whenever possible. The last item is very difficult to do since we live in an area that is, for the most part, not pedestrian-friendly.

So...I had my blood Sugar retested 2 weeks ago with the doctor's appointment today. It seems that my blood sugar only dropped 3 points. Since June, I've lost 3 pounds.

Right now, I'm feeling very discouraged and also am wondering if it is worth it to continue with the herbal supplements. Have I put too much faith in the supplements? There are 2 supplements that I simply can't use---bitter melon and fenugreek due to the fact that one of their side effects is loose stools. Given the fact, that I have IBS-D and finally found something to help with it, taking those 2 supplements is just not in the cards.

One bright spot in all of the recent developments---the doctor has yet to put me on diabetic meds. She did put me on Zocor since although my bad cholesterol levels are in normal range, my good cholesterol isn't.

So...now I have 2 more months to try and effect some change. Other than getting on the treadmill more often (which I plan to do) and continue with healthy eating, I now wonder if it is worth it to continue with the herbal supplements.

Any advice? Should I continue with the herbal supplements? If so, are there any that are worth considering? I should point out that I have had my gallbladder removed.

Thank you for any help. Right now, I'm really feeling sad and discouraged.
