If your mother had cancer that means it would be prudent to take extra precautions so you did not develop cancer.  To me, that would mean a diet and lifestyle to keep the immune system strong and to fight cancer - and it would also mean supplementing with maintenance amounts of proven cancer fighters and preventives.

One may be genetically predisposed to have cancer but that does not mean that they will ever develop cancer.
