Yours was one of the first postings I read. My heart goes out to you.
My parents have been married for over 40 years. My dad pretty much always stood up for my mother. She was a bitch to us all... all being my 2-1/2 year older sister (who is 41 yrs., I am 38) and my younger brother who is 32. I don't have an especially close relationship with anyone in my family. My sister is just like my mother, and I only stay in touch with her b/c she's raising my neice and I can see history repeating itself. I've tried to convince my sister to be a different kind of mom to her daughter, but I guess she's learned her lessons well. My brother is marrying a woman who treats him the same way my mom always treated my dad, awfully. My parents were never loving, not even to each other. We never celebrated anything...holidays, birthday, etc. "Fun" was not something that was allowed in our house... neither was joy or laughter (unless it was really quiet so that they couldn't hear). My mother was and is painfully jealous of my father's side of the family and holds 40 year grudges about things that may or more likely, may not, have happened.
I do, however, have a good support system here.... friends, aunt(s), uncle(s), cousins ... This last "episode" of mine really threw me for a loop and it really wasn't something I wanted to discuss with my friends or family. I'm not sure why. Again, thank you.
