About two years ago, a sebaceous cyst formed under the skin on the back of my neck. It started out small for a while, then one day it suddenly grew large and painful. I went to a dermatologist, and he numbed the area, lanced the cyst, and drained it. About nine months later it suddenly got large again, and he did the same procedure as stated above, but this time he went a little deeper and probed around to try and get the membrane of the cyst. He said if that doesn't work, I would need surgery to remove it. Well, about ten months later the cyst returned again large and painful. I am no fan of surgery or drugs, so I did some research on natural treatments for this problem. This led me to castor oil as a natural, and inexpensive, remedy.
The treatment protocol I used is as follows:
I applied the oil to the cyst with my index finger and rubbed it on for a few minutes. Then I took a gauze pad and soaked it pretty good with the castor oil, and taped it over the cyst. I did this both in the morning, and in the evening before bed. The flrst day, the cyst had decreased in size considerably, and the pain decreased too. Every day, for about the next seven or eight days it decreased in size as it drained more and more. Every time I changed the gauze bandage, I used some rubbing alcohol to clean up the wound area. The only side effect, if you can call it that, was some itching around the wound during the time of treatment. The rubbing alcohol works well to eliminate the itching.
Today, the cyst is completely gone and the area around it is completely healed. The dermatologist wanted $450.00 to surgically remove the cyst, which I would have had to pay out of pocket. The castor oil, gauze bandages, gauze tape, and rubbing alcohol cost a total of $19.00.
I hope this is helpful. Be patient. I wish anyone dealing with this nusiance all the best.
