I live in the south too so appreciate
your dilemma. What I do which helps a lot
is to freeze things like nuts, grains,
flour and other stuff which gets buggy
in the freezer for anywhere from a few
hours to overnight. That is supposed to
kill the eggs. I have had success doing
this and can recommend you trying it.
I also store in glass whenever possible.
