Hi Vx,
I know, I'm long-winded...it's been a long "journey".
I think learning is key. If I had left it all up to my Alt Dr to provide me with all the information, I would understand about 1/4th of what I've learned in this past year. If a person can understand from the beginning of addressing their health with "Alternative" methods...that you didn't get in the shape you are in over-night, and addressing things in an "order", or "in phases" is so important.
It all goes hand in hand, and makes sense when you start looking at the whole big picture, rather than focusing on specific things. You'll hear any one of these things said as being a "cause":
"I've got leaky gut"
-candida/fungal infections"
-mercury toxins, and other heavy metals"
-parasites"
-bowel problems"
- food intolerances ,and other allergies"
-depression
-bacterial/viral infections
-chronic fatigue
What I'm finding out is that a sick liver, not given the essential nutrients needed to function and remove toxins as it's supposed to, is the core cause of all of the above..and most people will have all of them at the same time, not just one. Me included.
An important process to understand and research, is "Methylation". If specific vitamins/minerals/amino acids are lacking, the "methylation process" is broken.
One example of a broken methylation process (under-methylation) is it's affect on low serotonin in the brain:

>>>>>>If you have an injured gut by any means, you sharply reduce your ability to absorb B12.
>>>>>>>The precursors that go into the methylation cycle for SAMe/neurotransmitters/dopamine/serotonin are methionine, folate, B12, B6, TMG (Trimethylglycine) and zinc, and maybe some calcium and magnesium.
*******Under methylation= low serotonin**********
>>>>>Having a good source of methyl groups plus methionine in the diet is a good way to improve serotonin and melatonin supplies.
Why would one condition cause pain, fatigue, binge eating, self confidence, and abdominal problems? It's confusing and bewildering, not to mention way less than fun to live with!
But all of those seemingly random symptoms do have something in common - they all stem from low serotonin levels. And they're not the only problems related to low levels of this substance, which is both a neurotransmitter and a hormone.
Physical symptoms include:
Chronic fatigue, in spite of adequate rest
Disturbed sleep
Either loss of appetite or carb cravings, possibly due to the body's attempt to make more serotonin
Hot flushes and temperature changes
Headaches
Stomach pains
Emotional symptoms include:
Loss of interest in sex
Social withdrawal
Sadness and frequent crying spells
Low self-esteem and self-confidence
Loss of personality
Feeling emotionally sensitive and taking things personally
Irritability
Serotonin is a regulator, and without enough, our bodies just aren't regular!
