>>what I learned from tom is to not take water with it as that makes it burns more as it spreads the oil across the mouth,

He said to eat crackers with it as it lifts the oil off the tongue and helps ease the burning some<<

When utilizing tinctures, theys alway absorb into the bloodstream quicker (directly through the lining of the stomach!) if the stomach is empty - so if one eats crackers while taking a tincture, the tincture will absorb into the cracker. Of course, as the cracker is digested, the tincture will 'get in'...but not nearly as fast/effectively as if taken on an empty stomach. And in the case of using a cayenne tincture for a heart/bleeding emergency, this comes into play.

I don't know exactly what you/Tom mean by >>>not taking it with water because it spreads the oil across the mouth<<< ...but if you mean to take the tincture or powder WITHOUT ANY added fluid, then I think that's absolutely insane as well as completely masochistic...unless you just LIKE the burn) - and I KNOW the sensation of burn is intensified a zillion-fold by not mixing it with a "gulp's worth" of some kind of fluid. Very few people could EVER take cayenne (powder or tincture) without it being mixed in SOMETHING!

The straight powder or tincture will not spread around your mouth and linger longer when mixed with water - it races over the flesh and goes quickly down the throat. But the straight powder NOT mixed with water requires some amount of salivary fluid to mix with it before swallowing, and the oils soak in DEEPLY while that process is occurring and burn a LOT longer. The tincture, of course, because it's alcohol based, will absorb directly into the flesh of the mouth (rather than 'skating across the mouth' when mixed with something a gulped quickly) - and the burn will be FAR (FAR!!!) more intense and last much, much longer.

'Think I don't know what I'm talking about? Prove it to yourself...take two droppersful of "top hot" cayenne tincture or 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of powder, and put it directly in your mouth with NO water. Measure 'the burn'. Then, when you've recovered (lol), but the same amount in "one gulp's worth" of water, swallow quickly and chase with 'water as needed'.

The only fluid that will 'cut the burn' is milk.

Let us know if your actual experience has differed, and why you think that might be.
