msteve666,
no, I was not indulging you, I just thought that the information would be of help.
I do agree with the information to an extent, but there are so many conflicting views (apart from the pharma'-dominated and medical profession one) that it is difficult to arrive at a rational conclusion.

However, the Pauling/Rath hypothesis states that all animals (apart from humans and guinea pigs), manufacture their own ascorbate to the human equivalent of about 6 to 9 grams per day or more, and where we are left to finding our own from dietary and therefore inadequate amounts.
So on that basis, if we supplement our diets with adequate ascorbate, then that should be sufficient to prevent the arterial build-up of plaque and the prevention of heart attacks.

Paradoxically, if we do not supplement with adequate ascorbate then cholesterol levels that are manufactured by the liver are much higher than is considered to be healthy, but high levels of cholesterol are reported to be even more beneficial to health than lower quantities by some authorities and research studies.
Apparently, only one third of our cholesterol levels are received from dietary sources, and the liver manufactures the remainder.

If the Pauling/Rath hypothesis is correct, and we do supplement with higher amounts of ascorbate, and our risk of heart attack is correspondingly lowered, then how does that account for higher cholesterol levels achieving greater longevity?

So. Which is it to be? Higher cholesterol levels in the absence of ascorbate, or lower levels with ascorbate supplementation.

Your guess is good as mine.

In addition, I do believe that we do need greater quantities of ascorbate in our diets, and if this results in lower cholesterol levels generally then that is just the way it is meant to be.

My own cholesterol levels?
Never had them measured..........or seen the need to do so.
My resting pulse rate is 48 beats per minute, and my resting blood pressure is 122/81, which is supposed to be near the ideal; on that basis why would I need to measure my cholesterol levels?

Regards

Chrisb1.
