Hi all, I'll apologize now for the long post but I want to get most of the problem in here so you can help me. I was exposed to mold 2 1/2 yrs ago, was working with moldy wood, cut off bad ends and was using it to build a pen - I had no idea how dangerous mold is. Became very ill, ear/sinus problems, I see 'auras' or rainbow prisms out of my eyes and major 24/7 dizziness with vertigo. You name the test (or doctor) and I've had it done, there is nothing wrong with any of my tesing, mri's or cat scans.
I had my house emptied as I was worried about airborne spores after reading about mold, repainted, used concrobium all over basement as that is where I did the work with the wood and I did have a mildew odor in the basement. I run a de-humdifier now(back then it was broken) I get very little water in the basement so that keeps dampness controlled.
began using a humidifier as suggested about a 1 1/2yrs ago to keep sinuses draining (they say 'form or Meniere's' or it's inner ear problem of some sort but no test to confirm that), I had been improving but wasn't well yet so did the humidifier. Only one piece of carpet remained from emptying the house so felt well enough 5 weeks ago to remove it, had to take down bed to do it. These beds I have found out were on the news in 2005 for molding inside. It was a soft side waterbed, you unzip the pillow top and there is a six inch layer of foam over ten tubes of water. I had added foam about 2 yrs ago as the pillow top had sunk a bit - it was fine then so I am convinced the humidifier caused the problem.
Anyway, I unzip the bed and you name the color, it was on the foam, I couldn't get that bed out of the house fast enough. And the dog knew it, she has not slept in the bed for a year at least and now is a total bed hog! I thought she was just too hot from the humdifier running - she new the bed was bad.
My questions are, How long will it take to recover? It has been five weeks since the bed has been gone. Everything in the bedroom has been cleaned, I run an air purifier in there and living room. I finally had three fairly good days last week and went down the crapper these last three. I take Oreganol P73 (fungi killer) daily and have the entire time. I took that for seven weeks after my initial exposure and the pulsating in my head finally stoppped. The dizziness stays, every day it is different as to how bad it is. I don't understand how I was improving last week and then it went bad again. My ears still pop/crack and feel plugged.
this has kept me homebound all this time and I am desperate to get better without any scary drugs. Are there foods I should avoid? I won't eat peanuts as they are natural in mold but I don't know what other foods may have it. Could there still be airborne spores in here causing me trouble? there is no visible mold anywhere in the house, can't smell any mildew.
Should I expect good and bad days while my body recovers? and how long has it taken you all to get better? Anything natural I can do to help? I will not run a humdifier ever again, I read about the hydrogen peroxide in one, can I just put some of that in a spray bottle and spritz around the house? I drink at least a gallon of water a day so that should help flush any of it out of me.
The chiropractor knew about these beds, he thought that those people were told it would take about a year to recover. I just need some improvement here, anything to give me some hope, I am desperate, I can't go on living stuck inside the house, no life whatsoever. I can't afford a mold tester to come in here, I wonder if mold could be between the walls (from the humidifier) but wouldn't I see something on the wall to indicate that? There are no water pipes in my walls, everything is in the basement.
Hoping someone out there can help, I am a wee bit better and so is the dog for that matter, she is so much more energetic now! Just don't understand why the couple good days and now back to feeling crappy and dizzy.
