Re: periods, I've been perimenopausal for a couple years also, and posted a couple of days ago that I just got a period for the first time since April, after 2 months on Iodoral.

It's been a funny period tho. I expected something very heavy, instead I'm getting very light flow that switches on & off. (I have -- had? -- a couple of small fibroid cysts and wondered if I might slough them off . . . )

My experience aside, I've been speculating lately that "perimenopause" at least in terms of a constellation of symptoms is in many cases just another result of Iodine deficiency. (When it's not due to toxicity, artificial hormones etc.)

More speculation: when a woman starts to raise her cellular Iodine levels, it might take months for her hormone levels to normalize, since the glandular system involves so many interrelated feedback loops. ALL the glands, from the pituitary to the thyroid to the ovaries, have to heal before the body's hormones can operate in anything like an optimal way. And since a woman's cycle is monthly, it might take multiple "turns" before things all get sorted out.

Guy Abraham found via the Iodine Project that it takes most people 3 months on 50 mg/day to reach iodine sufficiency -- some people take more -- so figure the 3 month mark is just the starting point of the process of normalizing a menstrual cycle.

How's that for some back of the envelope health math :-)
