Well, I'm going to try and make a dent in that.
A lack of Iodine/Iodide affects every single cell in the body because every single cell in the body uses them in some fasion.
The most obvious sign of Iodine deficiency is thyroid problems. Some people don't recognize the signs and it only gets to the point of pain and serious enlargement of the gland when you literally have zero Iodine in your body.
Another serious sign is insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. However, I believe the main culprit behind diabetes to be chromium deficiency. Like Iodine, most people in the U.S. are chromium deficient. What's really pathetic is most people take chromium picolinate, chromium polynicotinate or chromium chloride and you absorb at a max of 2 percent of these supplements. If people would supplement with the correct form of chromium (the organically grown form) which is whole food chromium they would absorb 10-25 percent of the pill. But I'm digressing.
Iodine is another important element to the process by which the body uses oxygen to turn blood glucoe into ATP. Without Iodine and/or chromium the cells are unable to utilize Sugar properly. Chromium and Iodine (and I believe many other essential minerals) makeup the GTF molecule which allows the Sugar to enter the cell. From an interview I just listened to with a guy who's done extensive research on chromium this molecule is almost entirely chromium, however I believe it also contains Iodine.
Iodine deficiency, from what I've read, is also a major cause in having alot of fatty tissue in the stomach and thigh area. Largely because of insulin resistance.
Iodine is essential for brain development in young babies, as well as ALOT of saturated fat. Neither of which anybody gets anymore with those fluoridated baby formulas. Do not ever give your kid baby formula. Mother's breast milk and other sources of saturated fat and Iodine are a must.
Heart disease is another issue that Iodine seems to help. Iodine melts fatty deposits (although the fatty deposits themselves are just a mechanism the body uses to heal inflamed/damaged artery tissue due to inflammation) This, however, is also connected to the body's Sugar metabolism.
Breast cancer and FBD are another big one. The breasts, I belive, concentrate more Iodine than any other part of the body except the thyroid. Iodine essentially cures these ailments.
Iodine is reversing my male pattern baldness, albeit very slowly. Male Pattern Baldness, I believe is not genetic at all. It has to do with the body's sugar metabolism and the adrenal glands. When insulin resistance gets to a certain point the body's hormone system goes nuts and your hormone levels go extremely out of whack.
My white vellus hairs at the hairline are slowly turning into dark long hairs again. I hope to be able to show marked results in the future. I have before photos just in case.
I think the liver and kidneys have issues without Iodine as well. I know personally as soon as I started taking Iodine within a month or two I passed what seemed to be a very old kidney stone. I passed old black blood and everything so I believe Iodine can dissolve stones and prevent new ones.
The liver I don't know about. I think since Iodine keeps alot of toxins and metals on the move out of the body it can help prevent toxins from backing up in the liver. People on this board have also noted that Iodine can melt Gallstones in the liver/gallbladder area.
