I know when a well meaning friend tells you something, it can turn your world upside down.

Not knowing what part of the world you live in and not knowing what season you currently are in leaves me wondering. If it's winter, you are living in closed quarters (not able to open your windows, etc.) and probably experiencing what most people experience in the winter. Sinus problems are very common when it wintertime is here.
