Just wanted to post an update. He's currently pooping like a champ! We did the IF#3 again, just mega doses of it, and kept gently encouraging the potty instead of diapers. During the 5 day cleanse we did he got lots of fresh juices and after a couple weeks he just started having full diameter bowel movements. Once he started pooping on the potty it was a lot better, too. Peeing on the potty came naturally to him, but he would still stand and cross his legs when he had to poop, so when we would catch him doing that we'd see who could race to the potty first. Now he goes once or twice a day, full diameter, beautiful poops in the potty! Yay, I'm so glad we overcame that whole ordeal! We still are vigilant about the consistency of his BM's and we increase his juice when he starts getting backed up. But he is doing really well. Thanks so much for everyone's advice/support.
To answer your question, Tigger21, about trauma, I can't think of anything traumatic he experienced to trigger it. We did move a couple months before it started and we've had a rough couple years lately, so maybe that contributed. I definitely think it was emotional/psychological rather than physical. I have read that once a child experiences constipation that they associate pooping with pain and can then decide to stop pooping, which is what I think happened. But it's all cleared up now, thank God! Thank you for all the support!
