I tried baking soda and it did work ok, but the pH is slightly alkaline at 8.1 so I wasn't sure if it was destroying the acid mantle on my skin if I kept using it long term, day after day... I used it dissolved because as you said if you keep it gritty it acts as an exfoliator. I tried vinegar but the smell was too strong.
