Dear PTree,
I enjoyed the site you recommended with the lady sell her bentonite. She said there was over 200 different kinds of bentonite.
Fil's chemist friend gave us the true breakdown of bentonite: Chemically Bentonite is HYDRATED ALUMINIUM SILICATE.
Chemical Formula : Al2O34SiO2H2O
Therefore, I conclude that the other 199 different bentonites are really mixed with other minerals and metals mined from a particular geographical location. Or added ingredients like this woman admits that she puts into the clay she sells.
Your friend, Jason, message was encouraging. He recommends using US lab grade only if a person were to use bentonite.
I like the possibilities of detoxification with the external uses using "the clay". That is promising.
However, in the website you mentioned above. The woman loosely capped her clay for sales purposes with the word magnetic clay. The chelating process she claims is happening magnetically. Aluminum is not magnetic. Aluminum is the main consituent of bentonite, followed by oxygen, silicon, and water none of which are magnetic.
The chelation process occurs because a ionic bonding.
In my book entitled, "Chemical Engineer's Handbook" by Perry & Chilton, It states that aluminum "is attached by alkalies, by traces of copper, nickel, mercury and other heavy-metal ions, and by prolonged contact with wet insulation."
The silicate constituent of bentonite, salt derived from a silicic acid, draws water to it. When taken internally, the salt pulls water to it or will want to cling to the intestinal track taking the aluminum with it.
The aluminum is attached by alkalites, and metals mentioned above. Then the body's natural tendency is to expell everything poisonous out.
As far as the testing for aluminum that remains in the system going to the brain and other vital organs, will have to be proven by real expensive lab equipment used by forensic scientists that can quantify to the minutest degree of accuracy.
I like the herbal approaches for bowel cleansing better than the Bentonite approach. But that what Alternative Medicine is all about.
Sincerely,
Cutie Pie
