I got the Mirena IUD in June of 2004. The first 2 years were ok, I think, but the last 2 years I've had it has been crazy for me. First I was irritable all the time and upset, not knowing why I felt the way I did. I was very unhappy. My hair started falling out and was very brittle. My skin had lot of acne. I have never had skin problems my whole life. I was tired all the time, even with a full nights rest. I never could lose weight. I was only able to lose 8 pounds on WW but that's it and I was on WW for at least 3 months. I went to my doctor to have it removed only to find out that she could not find the strings. She tried on 2 seperate visits before she told me I would have to have a D & C to remove it. I was very scared that I would have to be knocked out in surgery to remove this from me. I had it removed this past weekend and as of today I feel like theres a calm over me. I can't really describe the feeling. It's almost as if I feel really free of this thing. I kid you not, but a couple of days after I had the surgery I weighed myself, and I have lost 5 pounds already.
