But here's the REAL problem:


Hospitals bear the costs when illegal immigrants enter the country for the express purpose of giving birth. But illegal immigrants also use emergency rooms, public roads, and public schools. In many cases they are able to obtain Medicaid, food stamps, public housing, and even unemployment benefits. Some have fraudulently collected Social Security benefits.>

So if we would END the vast welfare, then we wouldn't need to end birthright citizenship. That, to me, would be the best solution, because a lot of other social problems are tied to that. But unfortunately, it does not seem at all likely that we would end welfare.

We might as well declare the entire world to be Americans, if they so desire, and start mailing food and money to all the poor people around the world every month, and let them all move over here if they want to.

One more point: There is the RIGHT thing to do, and then there is the thing that benefits me the most. These are frequently not the same thing. We need to do the right thing, even if it hurts us.
