I like your thinking. All other things remaining equal, that is a great idea. There is one teency little problem. Since there are puppet governments - like a USG, sitting between commodities and consumers, all other things seldom remain equal, especially on the front where globally syndicated racketeering of commodities occurs.
From a historical perspective, the legitimate cost of producing petroleum is somewhere around $10 to $20 per barrel. However, we live in times of illegitimacy increasingly manifesting all around the globe. To wit: the $136 per barrel at the time of your post, leaving puppet masters to collect the difference between $10/$20 and $136 while citizens of USG pay $4.00 per gallon at the pump. As an aside, citizens of the United States of Europe have been bending over at the pump in the neighborhood (metric equivalent) of at least $6 per gallon as far back as several years before they were officially re-engineered into citizens of the United States of Europe. In retrospect, citizens of USG should thank their puppet government for heretofore not requiring them to bend over as far as the puppet EU government has been requiring our cousins across the pond to bend over. Anyway, if puppet USG should try the grain-at-$136-per-bushel trick, OPEC nations may well fall for that, puppet masters will still pocket the difference between $7 and $136, and for good measure they may jack up the bend-over effect at the pumps to $5 just to teach a lesson to citizens of puppet USG for thinking they could get one over on them.
