Good point. Who knows? The inherently variable and unpredictable nature of this particular natural cycle might be one of the reasons it came to be called weather... 'cause people never knew whether it was going to rain, or snow, or blow, or be be bone-dry sunny or ....

Take this same river scenario and apply it to various places within the heartland, where flood plains have over the years gone long dry during long cycles of dry weather, or even coastal areas where there happens to be AN OCEAN NEXT DOOR! Anyone notice how dried river beds are sometimes also known as former flood plains? From the entrepreneurial point of view, a real estate killing could be made off of rivers if it weren't for all that darned water getting in the way... which is really what dried up flood plains are... formerly wet real estate gone dry for a spell whereupon some enterprising people then came along and got the bright idea to convince a bunch of other people "build communities here!" ... and they did, by the bunches. But, time went on, and the weather cycles eventually came to do what they historically have a habit of doing; they change to an alternate cycle.... when the rains return, and long dry river beds fill once again, washing away all of that new, modular, mechanized suburbia built during long dry spells. The poor people are left to go homeless and relocate - so taxes go up, the rich are allowed to rebuild thanks to "insurance" - so taxes go up, and all of this unnecessary disaster is left for the experts to blame on something.....hey, how about that evil global warming? The only thing that may have gotten too warm in this is the gray matter of once intelligent people that seemingly got cooked and over done by too much reliance on what somebody else told them.
