Thanks a lot for the tips, Fledgling! I'm kind of in a weird living situation for a few more months, mostly I'm planning ahead for when I move in with my bf in his apartment (whenever I get my visa). Pretty depressed over the prospect of not having outdoor space after seeing some of those videos. I'd really love to have my own garden, maybe sometime in the future..

My mom has an old friend that lives on a farm, when my sisters and I were younger, she'd drive us out there every week or two and show us how to grow vegetables on a little piece of their yard they let us use. Plus my grandparents have about a 3-acre backyard which is largely garden/fruit trees. I used to go pick berries and things for my grandma. They even had bees for a while and we always had homemade honey growing up. Hopefully some of that has stuck with me over all this time, other than that I know almost nothing about growing things.
